Clinical Observation of Corneal Grafts

Abstract
Authors performed 43 corneal grafts in 41 patients since April 19,. 1967, the inauguration of the Central Eye Bank of Department of Ophthalmology, St. Mary¢¥s Hospital, Catholic Medical College.
Method and results of these cases are summarized as follows; In surgical technique, We have used King¢¥s or Castroviejo¢¥s corneal trephines, 7 mm in diameter in most of the cases (Table 4). And We placed routinely 12 interrupted sutures with 8-0 virgin silk except of eight cases of penetrating graft which made interrupted or continuous sutures with 10-0 monofilament nylon suture under the surgical :microscope.
Adding postoperative routine medication systemic dexamethasone was given from 5th postoperative, day for four to six weeks¡¯ duration. But in 18 grafts which were done recently routine topical hydrocortisone eye drop after 5 the postoperative day and systemic dexamethasone was only given in cases who -were recognized neovascularization or suspicious signs of graft rejection.
Table 6 showed the results of our cases reported here according to the clearness of grafted cornea. 29 Postoperative complications occurred in 18 grafts (Table 8).
Penetrating corneal grafts for adherent leucoma cornae, staphyloma cornea and corneal scars from: alkaline burns were failed to maintaining the clear graft.
Literatures were reviewed and major problems about corneal graft were discussed.
